August Newsletter

August 7, 2026

Hello Thunderbolt Family!

Here is our first monthly newsletter for the 26.27 school year. We hope everyone is enjoying their summer and that our students are getting excited to begin the school year. Our monthly newsletter will go out every month with a short message about what is happening around campus and other important information.

The classrooms and the campus are getting ready for the arrival of our Thunderbolts. The first day of school is Thursday, August 20. Parents are welcome to walk their student on campus and stay with them until about 8:10 am. We will do this for the first 5 days of school. Please take a look at our bell schedule HERE for dismissal times. Wednesdays are our early dismissal days with TK/K getting out at 12:00 pm, 1st-3rd at 12:05 pm, and 4th & 5th at 12:10 pm.

We are also having our 1st-Day Packet Pick-Up on Thursday, August 13, from 9:30 am - 12:30 pm. We will have a limited number of free backpacks available. If you're unavailable to pick up your packet on Thursday, you can come to the office anytime from 7:30 am to 3:30 pm starting on August 14.

We are looking forward to having the campus filled with students and to continuing our relationship with you and your student(s). Please don't hesitate to call the office at (805) 488-3569 with any questions.

See you soon!

Important Reminders

Entrances: We have two gates available for students when coming onto campus. One is along Clara Street, and the other is along North 3rd Street (cafeteria gate). Gates open at 7:35 am and close promptly at 8:00 am. Classes begin at 8:00 am.
*Breakfast is in the cafeteria, and it is free for all students between 7:35 am and 7:50 am.

Office Hours: The office is open daily from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm.

Dismissal: TK students are dismissed from their classrooms (Rooms K1 and K2).
Kindergarten - 2nd graders are dismissed from the Clara Street gate.
3rd - 5th graders are dismissed from the gate (flag pole gate) between the office and the cafeteria gate.
All students who are registered for our afterschool program (SHINE) will be walked by an instructor to a designated area. SHINE will be operating the first day of school for the families who have signed their child up to attend and got confirmation of their enrollment.

*Parents who are late for dismissal will need to go to the office to pick up their child.

Pick-Up and Drop-Off

As we work together to keep our dismissal and arrival times smooth and safe for all students, please keep the following guidelines in mind for drop-off and pick-up:

  • Stay in Your Vehicle in the Parking Lot: The school parking lot is strictly designated for quick drop-off and pick-up where drivers remain inside their vehicles; this is only for the parking lot near the office and the Clara Street gate. Please don't drop off students from the parking lot near the cafeteria gate.
  • Park on Nearby Streets to Walk: If you need to exit your vehicle—whether to help your child, walk them directly to the gate, or meet them at dismissal—please park along one of the designated nearby streets off-campus.
Keeping foot traffic out of the active parking lot lanes ensures a clear line of sight for drivers and helps protect all of our students. Thank you for your cooperation and for keeping our school community safe!

SHINE Program

Hueneme offers a free after-school program (SHINE and Catalyst). The SHINE program is composed of different components, including homework support, theater, and a variety of classes (cooking, STEM, art, sewing, and dance). Enrollment packets can be picked up in the office. SHINE and Catalyst will begin the first day of school for parents who have enrolled their student in the program and received confirmation.
